Bringing in present day terms alludes to the self-sufficiency all the while and significance of the work. As Conway et al. (2015) states, the calling sanctioning is simply the inward drive of a representative with self-assurance and this really guarantees the prosperity of the individuals while they are related with the association. The examination investigates the capability of calling for example the expectation or inspiration of an individual to accomplish the work. This extended from Washington to Oregon and down to southern California. The choice to clear the Japanese was one made at the most noteworthy level†¹by the President of the United States, who was going about as Commander in Chief.[3 pp.6] What military plans and suggest ations lay behind this choice? What options was the President introduced? What exactly degree was his choice dependent on military contemplations? Introductory designs for clearing of suspected individuals from vital zones along the West Coast concerned adversary outsiders of each of the three Axis countries: Germany, Italy, and Japan instead of individuals of Japanese family line alone. The enumeration in 1940 demonstrated that out of an aggregate of 126,947in the United States, 112,353 Japanese were living in the three Pacific states. The Failures Of Affirmative Action Essays - Social Inequality

The Failures of Affirmative Action Sometime in the distant past, there were two individuals who went to a meeting for just one employment position at a similar organization. The main individual went to a renowned and exceptionally scholastic college, had long stretches of work involvement with the field and, in the psyche of the business, could have a constructive outcome on the companys execution. The subsequent individual was simply beginning in the field and appeared to do not have the desire that was obvious in his adversary. Who was picked for the activity? you inquire. All things considered, if the story occurred before 1964, the appropriate response would be self-evident. In any case, with the to some degree ongoing appropriation of the social strategy known as governmental policy regarding minorities in society, the appropriate response gets indistinct. After the United States Congress passed the Civil Rights Act in 1964,it became clear that specific business conventions, for example, rank status and bent tests, forestalled all out correspondence in work. At that point President, Lyndon B. Johnson, chose something should have been done to cure these imperfections. On September 24, 1965, he gave Executive Order #11246 at Howard University that necessary government temporary workers to make confirmed move to guarantee that candidates are utilized . . . regardless of their race, statement of faith, shading, or national root (Civil Rights). When Lyndon Banes Johnson marked that request, he authorized one of the most segregating bits of assembly since the Jim Crow Laws were passed. Governmental policy regarding minorities in society was made with an end goal to assist minorities with jumping the discriminative boundaries that were available when the bill was first instituted, in 1965. As of now, the nation was in the wake of across the nation social liberties showings, and racial pressure was at its pinnacle. The greater part of the corporate official and administrative positions were involved by white guys, who controlled the recruiting and terminating of workers. The U.S. government, in 1965, accepted that these businesses were victimizing minorities and accepted that there was no preferable time over the present to realize change. At the point when the Civil Rights Law passed, minorities, particularly African-Americans, accepted that they ought to get revenge for the long periods of segregation they persevered. The administration reacted by passing laws to helper them in accomplishing better work as respite for the past 200 years of enduring their race suffered because of the white man. To many, this appeared well and good. Supporters of governmental policy regarding minorities in society asked, why not let the administration assist them with showing signs of improvement employments? All things considered, the white man was answerable for their affliction. While this may all be valid, there is another inquiry to be posed. Is it accurate to say that we are genuinely liable for the long stretches of oppression that the African Americans were submitted to? The response to the inquiry is yes and no. The facts confirm that the white man is halfway liable for the concealment of the African-American race. In any case, the individual white male isn't. It is similarly as out of line and suppressive to consider many white guys answerable for past mistreatment now as it was to victimize numerous African-Americans in the ages previously. For what reason should a legit, dedicated, liberal, white male be smothered, today, for past shamefulness? Governmental policy regarding minorities in society acknowledges and supports the possibility of tit for tat and a tooth for a tooth. Do two wrongs make a right? I think mother encouraged us superior to that. Governmental policy regarding minorities in society supporters make one enormous supposition while shielding the strategy. They expect that minority bunches need assistance. This, in any case, may not generally be the situation. My involvement in minorities has persuaded that they battled to achieve balance, not uncommon treatment. To them, the acknowledgment of unique treatment is an induction of inadequacy. They ask, Why cant I become fruitful all alone? For what reason do I need laws to assist me with finding a new line of work? These African Americans need to be treated as equivalents, not as incompetents. In an announcement discharged in 1981 by the United States Commission on Civil Rights, Jack P. Hartog, who coordinated the task, stated: Only if segregation were just the confused demonstrations of a couple of biased people would governmental policy regarding minorities in society plans be opposite separation. Just if todays society were working decently toward minorities and ladies would measures that

Ford Motor Company Free Essay Example, 750 words

Business Questions Ford Motor Company Ford Motor Company is relatively the fourth largest automotive manufacturer in terms of production capacity. The company sells vehicles under Ford and Lincoln brands. Ford’s domestic sales have been low and stagnant for quite some time, in comparison to its European operations that has increased by producing many quality acclaimed vehicles. The reason behind difference between domestic and international operations is expensive manufacturing facilities caused by â€Å"high wages and expensive health care and retirement obligations for Union Labor† (Corporate Ford, pp. 10-67). In 2008, the health care expenses for US employee and retirees were $1.3 billion and around $500 million for post retirement health care and the balance for active employee health care and other retiree (Corporate Ford, pp. 10-67). The excess capacity and introduction of new products in the key segments have pressurized the manufacturers to increase prices of their products. â€Å"The incremental new US manufacturing capacity of Japanese and Korean manufacturers have contributed, it is likely to continue pressure in US markets to increase prices† (Corporate Ford, pp. 10-67). Currency Exchange Rate Volatility can be a reason to be considering as we have witnessed that US dollar has strengthened against Euro and significantly against British pound, but weaken against Japanese Yen. In the United States, decline in residential construction spending have started since, it was 21% down in 2008 after 18% decline in prior year. This trend has two basic affect on sales and revenue directly through its unfavorable effect on GDP growth and as a contributing factor in soft demand for truck sales. Both of these factors lead to lower the light vehicles sales in United States. The financial analysis of Ford North America shows that fixed assets impairment charges has increased in 2008 as compared to 2006 and 2007 (Ford Motor Company, pp 1-6). Personnel – reduction programs, accelerated depreciation on leased facility, US dealer consolidation, supplier settlement, pension curtailment charges, variable marketing, US plant idling, job security benefits, and retirement benefits have been introduced in 2008, which has increased the deficit and resu lts in low profitability (Ford Motor Company, pp 1-6). Union Carbide In the wake of industrialization a devastated event occurred in December 1984 that is consider the worst chemical incident due to the leakage of methyl isocynate (MIC) gas in the plant of the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) killing approximately 3,800 people (ICFTU, pp. 15- 25) in a sweep and several thousands injured with partial or permanent disabilities. The studies showed that the gas evolved in a cloud with the cold breeze and caught the local residents, suffocating them with coughs, choking, and irritation eventually resulting in massive death tolls. UCIL launched a thorough investigation with the consent of the local and federal government of India and another independent review by experts of Arther D. Little (ICFTU, pp. 15- 25) that both indicated the same conclusion. The evidence from the effected site showed entrance of a massive amount of water in the tank containing the batch of methyl isocynate that created an impulsive reaction with the heat and pressure, which eve ntually resulted in a lethal gas that invaded the whole plant and the residential areas. The independent review also indicated that the tragedy occurred due to the deliberate action of a skilled employee who introduced the water in the tank as the plant was certified with all the safety systems working at the time of accident that clearly draw the line towards the weakness in UCIL organizational hierarchy and strategically decisions (Browning, pp. 1-15). UCIL have 50% stakes in the plant and the remaining by the Union Carbide Corporation. The company’s CEO was under arrest on arrival to India along with the other five senior Indian executives (ICFTU, pp. 15- 25). There were serious corporate criminal charges of negligence against them and due to lack of communication of reporting lines to the senior executives of the UCIL, the situation worsen as they were not aware of the exact cause of tragedy. The victims of the tragedy lack safety procedures and demonstrated that the Indian Government (Browning, pp. 1-15) should handle the crises management and medical relief that refrained towards the UCIL negligence resulting in arrest of the top management. The plant manufactures its own main ingredients, which is a highly toxic and unstable gas. Many events are indirectly link with the management infrastructure and its strategies such as in early 1984 there was a cut back in employees and restructuring, which resulted in lack of mor ale and confidence in the senior management’s loyalty. There was a cleaning scheduled on the same day of the plant and due to lack of monitoring and reporting; the deliberate negligence was countercheck when the metal barriers were not insert for protection against the water entering the MIC tank. It later on intensified with deliberate increase of water in the tank (ICFTU, pp. 15- 25). The lack of documented reporting and the ethical negligence on the part of the plant maintenance staff is a serious factor in this case, which needs to be consider. The senior management did not know the ignorance of the causes of the hazard, which is a flaw in the reporting line and delegation of duties to the lower management. There was a lack of crisis management and safety computer checks to unveil the tragedy though the plant was making a perilous component and such safety measures should be in place when operating by a surrounding of urban population (ICFTU, pp. 15- 25). Yoon Yupar Ms. Tanaka Honors English 25 September 2015 An Unconquerable Obstacle â€Å"Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don t always like† (Handler). This quote paints a picture of how one may strive to achieve something, but how fate is often not what you planned and may or may not be ideal. The book Of Mice and Men takes place during the Great Depression, when many people were flooding into America to achieve the â€Å"American Dream†. A large majority of those people were migrant farm workers, who traveled from ranch to ranch in search of work; they were trying to reach their dream of owning land, raising a family, and having a steady income. More often than not, they never reach those dreams and spend their life in poverty. In the novel, Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck alludes to how, in spite of careful planning and steady persistence, fate always gets in the way of achieving one’s dreams, resulting in hopelessness. Most everyone will try to take control of their lives by planning in order to attain success, but chance still plays a role in one’s fate because no plan is perfect. Role of the Foster Parent One of the most significant studies found in the literature was a qualitative study conducted by Schofiell, Beek, Ward, and Biggart on the role of the foster parent (2013). The purpose of the study was to understand the boundaries of the role of the foster parent on the continuum of carer and parent (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013). The study was a portion of a larger study on permanency in foster care (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013). Schofiell, Beek, Ward and Biggart recapped on the concept of being a professional, someone who has specific skills and training, which leads to identifying foster parents as professionals (2013). They further state foster parents should be viewed as professional working with other professionals to meet the needs of the foster child (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013).Their study attempted to understand how individuals view or define their role as foster parents (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013). The research design used Role theory as the theoretical framework (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013). My Fathers Life free essay sample

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them Unfortunately, some children arent able to grow up with both parents around, and in other cases both parents exist with multiple problems. With this happening it is hard for children to actually complete their goals and actually do what they want when they are older, thus not allowing them to achieve greatness. While both Banks and Carver grew up to become writers their family lives are very different. Banks and Carver deal with their childhood memories, alcoholism, and fathers passing away differently. While Banks and Carver were growing up they lived very different lives. Banks grew up in a home with only his mother, his father had moved out. Although he was close with his father, in the text, it is much more apparent that his mother is the main caregiver. Banks remembers his mother as someone who tells many stories, its as if she hopes you will love her more easily if she is associated somehow with fame (288, Russell Banks), most of which are untrue. Banks tells the reader that unlike his mother, he didnt tell stories. The one story Banks father did tell ended up being a lie in the end. The story simply was not true. My father had made it up (286, Russell Banks), even though this is not a big a deal, it mattered to Banks at the time. Having a parent make up a story so you feel as though you fit into the family is not a common thing. Perhaps Banks father seen his lack of love for his son, and tried to create a story to bond himself and his son a little closer before his death. Banks realizes that everyone is just looking to fit in somewhere into society, his mother especially. Banks writes, She told me she had the female lead in the catamount high school senior play and sonny tufts had the male lead (283, Russell Banks). At the end of the story Banks understand his mother’s need to feel as though she were higher up in society, perhaps filling areas in her life she felt were lacking. Banks even comes to understand that his mother needs to feel this way and listens to his stories even though they are all lies. Carver describes his father’s journey throughout his life in a lot of detail, though his father had problems like alcoholism, it never seemed to disturb his goal of creating a financially stable life for his family. Carvers fathers failure to actually create a supreme living life for his family pushed him to lose his place in the world and ultimately made his life and health suffer too alcoholism. Banks and Carver both have parents who suffer from an alcohol problem, however, they both thrive from these situations very differently. Carver watched his father suffer from alcoholism, and even succumbed to it himself. Carvers parents fought often because of the alcohol to which they even considered sending Carver to his aunt’s house, I remember my dad taking me into the bedroom, sitting me down on the bed, and telling me that I might have to go live with my Aunt LaVon for a while (275, Raymond Carver), as he got older puzzle pieces started to fit together as to why Carvers parents were always fighting; One time she found someone elses tube of lipstick on the floorboards along with a lacy handkerchief (275, Raymond Carver). Unlike Carver, Banks learned about the effects much differently, â€Å"My friend’s mother’s death, like my fathers, was caused by acute alcoholism and had been going on for years. What most suicides accomplish in minutes, my father and my friends mother took decades to do (286, Russell Banks). Banks never fell into the habits like Carver did, however, the effects of alcoholism still played a role in their lives equally. In the end of Banks and Carvers stories, their fathers do pass away. They both dealt with the passing of their fathers differently. Carver did not cry until after the ceremony was finished, I began to weep for the first time since receiving the news (280, Raymond Carver), as appose to Banks who admitted When my father died, even though I had been seeing him frequently and talking with him on the phone almost every week, I did not miss him. (285, Russell Banks). Perhaps Carver only cried after the ceremony because throughout his life he felt partly ashamed of his father. Carvers father had made several comebacks throughout his life, however, Carver also wants to learn from his fathers mistakes. I remember the shame I felt when my third-grade teacher, Mr. Wise, drove me home from school one day. I asked him to stop at the house just before ours, claiming I lived there. (275, Raymond Carver), Carver also hints towards not liking the fact his name and his father’s name were the same. I was named Raymond Clevie Carver Jr. I hated the junior part (272, Raymond Carver), it is clear he does not like the junior part because he was Junior to his father; his father being the first Raymond. Throughout the story, Banks explains to the reader how he interprets what his mother says, however, his father on the other hand did not tell stories. Except for once, his father once told him about his name, which Banks discovers was only a lie. At this moment, as I say this, I do love him, but its too late for the saying to make either of us happy. That is why I say the death of a parent is a terrible thing (286, Russell Banks) perhaps Banks feels it is a bad time to say it because he feels it is too late to save their relationship. The death of a parent is a terrible thing, because you realize as you get older you drift apart, and you wish you could have called more often or created more memories while they were alive. In Carvers poem he writes, Father, I love you, / yet how can I say thank you, I who cant hold my liquor either/ and dont even know the places to fish (279, Raymond Carver), Carver did not know how to thank his father, because he did not know what to thank him for. Carver and his father did not have time to spend with each other, because Carvers father spent so much time working and then drinking, there were never any memories of fishing because there was no time for such things. Unfortunately, when a parent dies, you question your relationship with one another. Perhaps you could have done this together, or perhaps things would have been different had you spent more years together. For Carver and Banks this was the case, and they came out of the situation differently. Everyone in life goes through different situations, and regardless of what your situation is or was, this does not determine where you will end up in life. Banks and carver may have ended their lives as writers, but the how they lived their lives were very different.

Sample Essay on the Inovation of Foreign Methods Into the Western World

Sample Essay on the Inovation of Foreign Methods Into the Western WorldAn example of a sample essay on the infiltration of foreign methods into the western world is provided below. It is a good way to explain some of the deeper undercurrents that go along with infiltration, espionage and even terrorism. This essay should be considered to be a summary of the major points of infiltration. It could also be used to comment on some of the activities that have been occurring in recent years. It is a good way to organize everything and to present a unified view of the subject. The idea behind infiltration is to gain information, to steal information or to change another country's course of action through immigration is one way of infiltrating. Attempting to introduce a potential spy to someone involved in the target country is another way of infiltrating. Several incidents in the recent past point to attempts to do so. An example is when the FBI tried to recruit a relative of an agent posing as a terrorist in order to infiltrate the group in order to find out if the whole infiltration theory was working. There are many things that need to be considered when trying to get inside a place. These include how a person gets inside, what is in the place, where the door of entry might be located and what methods are being used. In many cases, the authorities find it necessary to destroy evidence of things that are found on places that were infiltrated by the spy. In other cases, it is discovered that the infiltrator gave up some personal information and this is only found after the things stolen by the spy are found and brought back to the point of entry.Important to note is that there are often other persons who are also considered to be spies. The degree of entrapment is dependent on the method used, and the amount of information that is included in the mixture of substances. The possibilities for escape from traps are also a factor in determining the level of entrapment.Succe ssful infiltrations generally mean that the efforts work. What is often unique about such cases is that it is sometimes necessary to kill someone for an infiltration that does not work. That is why the number of times that people have to be killed has increased over the years. There is no guarantee that one will be killed for infiltrating the wrong person. In fact, one may have to kill somebody because of entrapment, but the infiltration did not work, and thus it is impossible to say how long the entrapment would have lasted. It is always important to take precautions and consider the possibility of another infiltration attempt. The sample essay on the infiltration of foreign methods into the western world will help to present a clearer picture of the subject. It should be considered to be a starting point for further studies of this type.

Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes

Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes Arthur Conan Doyle (May 22, 1859 - July 7, 1930) created one of the worlds most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes. But in some ways, the Scottish-born author felt trapped by the runaway popularity of the fictional detective. Over the course of a long writing career, Conan Doyle wrote other stories and books he believed to be superior to the tales and novels about Holmes. But the great detective turned into a sensation on both sides of the Atlantic, with the reading public clamoring for more plots involving Holmes, his sidekick Watson, and the deductive method. As a result Conan Doyle, offered great sums of money by publishers, felt compelled to keep turning out stories about the great detective. Fast Facts: Arthur Conan Doyle Known For: British writer best known for his detective fiction featuring the character Sherlock Holmes.  Born: May 22, 1859Died: July 7, 1930Published Works: More than 50 titles featuring Sherlock Holmes, The Lost WorldSpouse(s): Louisa Hawkins (m.  1885; died  1906), Jean Leckie (m.  1907)Children: Mary Louise, Arthur Alleyne Kingsley, Denis Percy Stewart, Adrian Malcolm, Jean Lena AnnetteNotable Quote: When the impossible has been eliminated, all that remains no matter how improbable is possible. Early Life of Arthur Conan Doyle Arthur Conan Doyle was born May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland. The familys roots were in Ireland, which Arthurs father had left as a young man. The family surname had been Doyle, but as an adult Arthur preferred to use Conan Doyle as his surname. Growing up as an avid reader, young Arthur, a Roman Catholic, attended Jesuit schools and a Jesuit university. He attended medical school at Edinburgh University where he met a professor and surgeon, Dr. Joseph Bell, who was a model for Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle noticed how Dr. Bell was able to determine a great many facts about patients by asking seemingly simple questions, and the author later wrote about how Bells manner had inspired the fictional detective. Medical Career In the late 1870s, Conan Doyle began writing magazine stories, and while pursuing his medical studies he had a yearning for adventure. At the age of 20, in 1880, he signed on to be the ships surgeon of a whaling vessel headed to Antarctica. After a seven-month voyage, he returned to Edinburgh, finished his medical studies, and began the practice of medicine. Conan Doyle continued to pursue writing and published in various London literary magazines throughout the 1880s. Influenced by a character of Edgar Allan Poe, the French detective M. Dupin, Conan Doyle wished to create his own detective character. Sherlock Holmes The character of Sherlock Holmes first appeared in a story, A Study in Scarlet, which Conan Doyle published at the end of 1887 in a magazine, Beetons Christmas Annual. It was reprinted as a book in 1888. At the same time, Conan Doyle was conducting research for a historical novel, Micah Clarke, which was set in the 17th century. He seemed to consider that his serious work, and the Sherlock Holmes character merely a challenging diversion to see if he could write a convincing detective story. At some point, it occurred to Conan Doyle that the growing British magazine market was the perfect place to try an experiment in which a recurring character would turn up in new stories. He approached The Strand magazine with his idea, and in 1891 he began publishing new Sherlock Holmes stories. The magazine stories became an enormous hit in England. The character of the detective who uses reasoning became a sensation. And the reading public eagerly awaited his newest adventures. Illustrations for the stories were drawn by an artist, Sidney Paget, who actually added much to the publics conception of the character. It was Paget who drew Holmes wearing a deerstalker cap and a cape, details not mentioned in the original stories. Arthur Conan Doyle Became Famous With the success of the Holmes stories in The Strand magazine, Conan Doyle was suddenly an extremely famous writer. The magazine wanted more stories. But as the author didnt want to be overly associated with the now-famous detective, he demanded an outrageous sum of money. Expecting to be relieved of the obligation to write more stories, Conan Doyle asked for 50 pounds per story. He was stunned when the magazine accepted, and he went on to keep writing about Sherlock Holmes. While the public was crazy for Sherlock Holmes, Conan Doyle devised a way to be finished with writing the stories. He killed off the character by having him, and his nemesis Professor Moriarity, die while going over Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland. Conan Doyles own mother, when told of the planned story, begged her son not to finish off Sherlock Holmes. When the story in which Holmes died was published in December 1893, the British reading public was outraged. More than 20,000 people canceled their magazine subscriptions. And in London, it was reported that businessmen wore mourning crepe on their top hats. Sherlock Holmes Was Revived Arthur Conan Doyle, freed from Sherlock Holmes, wrote other stories and invented a character named Etienne Gerard, a soldier in Napoleons army. The Gerard stories were popular, but not nearly as popular as Sherlock Holmes. In 1897 Conan Doyle wrote a play about Holmes, and an actor, William Gillette, became a sensation playing the detective on Broadway in New York City. Gillette added another facet to the character, the famous meerschaum pipe. A novel about Holmes, The Hound of the Baskervilles, was serialized in The Strand in 1901-02. Conan Doyle got around the death of Holmes by setting the story five years before his demise. However, the demand for Holmes stories was so great that Conan Doyle essentially brought the great detective back to life by explaining that no one had actually seen Holmes go over the falls. The public, happy to have new tales, accepted the explanation. Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about Sherlock Holmes until the 1920s. In 1912 he published an adventure novel, The Lost World, about characters who find dinosaurs still living in a remote area of South America. The story of The Lost World has been adapted for film and television a number of times, and also served as an inspiration for such films as King Kong and Jurassic Park. Conan Doyle served as a doctor in a military hospital in South Africa during the Boer War in 1900 and wrote a book defending Britains actions in the war. For his services he was knighted in 1902, becoming Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The author died on July 7, 1930. His death was newsworthy enough to be reported on the front page of the next days New York Times. A headline referred to him as Spiritist, Novelist, and Creator of Famous Fiction Detective. As Conan Doyle believed in an afterlife, his family said they were awaiting a message from him after death. The character of Sherlock Holmes, of course, lives on and appears in films right up to the present day.

Racism - Information Essay essays

Racism - Information Essay essays Racism has existed for centuries, but during the last two hundred years hatred toward ethnic minorities or even majorities has fluctuated. Racism occurs all over the world, can happen to anyone and will always exist. There are three different forms of racism, open racism, violent racism and secret racism all express forms of hatred towards ethnic groups. These forms of racism, although different, all have the same main purpose, to promote hate towards ethnic groups. Open racism expresses freedom of racial thought and speech. In America it is allowed due to the First Amendment that protects political views on racism. The American National Party and various other parties come under this protection, and so does the British National Party and the National Front. We do not have a First Amendment, but these obviously racist parties still exist. Open racists promote their views through propaganda, but soon may die out as it becomes socially unacceptable. Violent racism promotes racism through violence and fear. This form of racism is not allowed because it promotes violence to express its ideas. Unfortunately, many violent racial groups claim they do not promote violence, and therefore they are allowed because not enough sufficient evidence exists to prove their violent intent. Secret racism expresses ideas of racism in hidden ways and sometimes, secret racists are not aware that they are racist. People nowadays do not express their dislike of minorities and are not prepared to show a feeling that could be called racist. Avoiding minorities on the street and low pay to an employee of a minority are examples of secret racism. This form of racism is the most common today. However, back in the nineteenth century, violent and open racism was widespread. The Ku Klux Klan originated in the southern states of the US during the Reconstruction following the American Civil War. The original Klan was set up in Pulaski, Tennessee, on...

Influence of Culture on Values and Expectations in Ones Life Essay

Influence of Culture on Values and Expectations in Ones Life - Essay Example Our expectations from life generally revolve around our careers and our relationships. Career choice has been rapidly influenced by the corporate culture that inadvertently inspires each graduate of a business school. Likewise, Boston Legal, a popular TV series related to legal practice has set the expectations of law students to a different level. Â  The media may generally depict people in stereotypical ways such that consumers are encouraged to adopt expectations about the roles that those people occupy. Following the example of female attorneys, if the media depicted few females in the role of attorney, then consumers of the media might come to think of males as much more likely to be attorneys. (Sparks, 200) Â  The field of journalism as portrayed by the various news channels is now associated with thrill and adventure that drives many students to choose it as their career. Similarly, more and more young people are lured towards entertainment industry in a dream to become a superstar. Â  Fresh graduates wish to climb the ladder of success quickly in an effort to reach the executive level positions in any organization. Thus a major shift in their priorities has occurred and their goal is no more to achieve professional excellence. The expectations of people from their careers are not limited to high salaries alone but have extended beyond to meet other expectations in life; the images of business tycoons flying across the world in their private jets; or owning private mansions in Europe; etc. have become a common dream for many people.

One ought to never do wrong Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

One ought to never do wrong - Essay Example Socrates argued that if a person does harm unintentionally and is willing to learn, then, he or she can be assisted through education. However, if harm is accused by malice, then punishment should be inevitable. Socrates argues that anyone who acts unjust is a dishonor to himself. Socrates touches on the issue of avenging where he argues that returning evil in retaliation is not meaningful as it does not lead to any gains, rather, it leaves a more humiliated soul (Ahbel-Rappe and Kamtekar 15). This implies that one should be guided by morals of not harming or injuring anyone. Respecting ones beliefs is emphasized by Socrates. He insists that one must do what he or she thinks is right. The right ‘thing’ must prevail regardless of what people think or desire. In a nutshell, Socrates advices that a morally upright person is not supposed to forsake his principles just because he has been
